That would be a very easy conversion even for limited handyman skills -- pulling boards at the top of the sides and front to vent under the roof.

But if that odd color on the roof is water damage negotiate the price HARD, pointing out the need for a new roof.

If the price seems good for your area, the building is in good condition, and your intended coop / run layout works with your property, it's definitely something you can work with.

I currently have a pre-fab tiny coop and I've already added onto the run but it is all still a BIG joke when it comes to safety and ventilation not to even mention space.
I have 3 silkies and 1 polish all 8 wks old and live in TENNESSEE.
I ran across this and wanted yalls advice...I just needed some experienced opinions and help regarding this playhouse I have the opportunity to get.
It is 6' 3" square and made of cedar wood. I know I will need to do hardware cloth at the windows, where the board is missing at the top on left at back I could remove the others all the way across and put in hardware cloth for additional ventilation.
Easy enough to add a door and build a ramp on backside.
It is 4-5 years old, does not leak, has asphalt roll roofing, and decking for flooring.
I would have to pay $600 plus a mover to relocate it. I'm guessing that will be around $300 based on what I'm seeing online in my area.

This is a great solution! I know that we are so happy to have renovated a 100-year old chicken house on our farm, spending over $1,000 on the lumber used to rebuild the entire subfloor flooring, 4 huge support beams and one of the 2, 13’ long walls; it’s so worth it as like the one you were lucky to find it has a pleasant feel and look with the solid wood walls which will also last for many years. It’s a blessing to personalize it, and have the real space to walk around in. Like someone else mentioned you should ask someone about the cedar boards, which probably are not an issue like the use of cedar shavings used on floors &

as bedding. I believe it’s a great deal -no way could you build that from scratch as it would cost thousands. The prebuilt ones are cheaply built & cost more. Solid stick built is the ideal and would be a time consuming major project. It seems to have good windows for ventilation,door, all you really need is the hardware mesh mentioned. We also researched what people used on top of a subfloor to protect it and got diy waterproof floating vinyl pop- together planks & it was super cheap & easily done in a couple of hours. It actually looks great! It’s not necessary but we wanted to protect it all so we then covered it with a layer of rubber matting that’s a thinner version of what’s used for horses & comes in a roll so we cut and just laid it down to be able to easily wash it down twice a year or so when we clean out the “litter” of pine chips, hay, dry grass, etc. So far it’s working out very well. These are our 1st chickens raised from chicks and we love everything about them & the restored building! Best wishes!

This is the biggest issue...besides my health problems, my husband is a very limited handyman. His skills are all on a computer!
But sadly he thinks the chickens are fine just as they are
When I went to close up the coop last night they were all sitting in the doorway and with these high temps I didn't have the heart to close it up completely. Well when I went out this morning they were all out in the run.
I pray he realizes before it's too late that this pre-fab is not working. It should be illegal for them to even sell those stupid things!

Looks perfect! Add ventilation covered with hardware cloth right below the slanted roof, add some roosts and a run and you’re set! I love it

With DH not being completely on board, the price (including moving $) is a big deterrent. While it would make a great coop, perhaps keep looking for something cheaper. Have you seen the kids plastic play house conversions? Maybe read up on those and keep an eye out for a plastic playhouse. Seems like one of those would be easier to come across.

A hoop coop might be worth looking into.

Cattle panels are about $25 each. Just 2 panels makes an 8x8 space. Add a third panel and it's 8x12 which can be a great coop and run combo size.
It would be a bit over 6' at the tallest part.

I'm looking to attach some type of fencing to the bottom of our deck. Would "cattle panels" work so that I could buy a foot out onto ground for protection?
Sorry a new neighbor just moved in and she has a dog so I gotta do something as soon as possible.
I found this Fencing at Lowes...would this be good protection?
