A few days ago, I realized our two-year-old female outside cat was pregnant. She has had two litters before – each with only two kittens (the second litter was quite interesting as she delivered the second kitten almost 48 hours after the first – it was alive and healthy). She was relatively round, but I thought she couldn't be past eight weeks, at least, because I could not feel the kittens moving. Today I went outside, and I could feel the two horns of the uterus – they were quite firm, and looked maybe as though they had 'dropped.' At least they were more prominent than a few days ago. Then I realized she was leaking brownish-red liquid, as she has done before before delivering, but she has no colostrum letdown. The last two pregnancies she has had colostrum several days in advance. And I still do not feel or see kittens moving (I have not been watching her very long, though). Do you think she is experiencing a miscarriage?

Thank you!

Hi, she might be. When my cat leaked that reddish brown liquid the vets kept saying it was normal that close to birth time..etc..etc.. well..the kitten (she had only one kitten in her) was born dead..fully formed, but still born.

So i hope that everything will be okay with your kitty.. How far is she? Maybe shes just going into labor? Good luck!

Thanks, redhen!

I really am not sure how far she is. I thought she was only four to seven weeks. But you're right. She could be full term, and I just didn't realize she was ready until now. I wish I could see one move, though. One kick. Then I would feel a little better.

i know what ya mean! but sometimes they stop moving before delivery. So lets hope for that! Best of luck!

Would she let you, carefully, take her temperature? That would give you a clue whether she might have a uterine infection.

Best of luck,

Pat

Thank you, everyone. I'm sorry to say, but Mercy delivered at least one kitten preterm on the 23rd. It was probably six weeks along or so. I was pretty sad, but Mercy thankfully actually has seemed to be happier than she had been. She had been irritable toward the other cats the last week or so (even her own 11-month daughter), which she hadn't been before during her pregnancies. She's back to her own self.

Thanks again for all your kind help!
