Please anyone help!

Our girls have had ongoing resurgences of poultry lice and it just recently had come back with a vengence especially with our alpha hen Julian. We tried to bath her to get as many of the bugs off her as we could but shes so listless and not herself. This morning my fiance went to check on them and she was at bottom of roost just leaning against it as if she had fallen off and did not have strength to move. We thought she was dead. She is still breathing but barely moving and so we brought her inside to try to nurse her. I am going to try to get her electrolytes today but her eyes are closed and she just looks like she is too weak to do anything but lay on her side. We love our birds and i am freaking out. I dont know what to do for our girl, help!

Sounds like she may have ingested what you used to treat the flock with, good luck and hoping for the best.

First off I'd like to say that I'm sorry you are having these issues. I would suggest that you go ahead with the electrolytes and a little bit of unflavored yogurt wouldn't hurt (not too much, chickens are lactose intolerant). You can also wet down her normal feed into a mash and see if you can get her to take some of that. Next, get some food grade diatomaceous earth and dust her lightly, try not to make too much dust in the air as it can irritate their sinus's since she is indoors and there is no wind to blow away the excess dust. Then use the DE to dust the entire coop and run. I add DE to their sand bath to prevent this sort of thing and have never had a problem with lice, mites, fleas or ticks.

I appreciated the responses. Unfortunately our Julian has passed. We had not dusted them yet, so we do not think she ingested anything, but our best guess is she had gotten sick and by the time we found her that morning she was too weak to fight it and gave up. This was our first to pass and both my fiance and I took it hard. We decided to cremate her and did so that evening. We are going to spread the ashes in the run of their coop so she can remain with the rest of the family still. Thanks again.
