Not to mention you need a rooster per 8-9 hens, and maybe an extra in case one turns out to be mean. If they are all nice of course you'll just need more hens so no one gets too worn out...
wait, I think you left the part out about the amount of linear wall space in your chicken coop (er... shed... garage...), and the number of nest boxes that will fit in that amount of space. of course you have to multiply that by 2, (double decker, you know) and THATS how many nest boxes you need.
now multiply that number by 4 hens, and add one rooster for each 8 hens.
of course, if only one is laying, you'll need more hens...
And if you need more hens, then there is a probability that some of them will be roosters, so you needed more hens, then there is a probability that some of them will be roosters, so you needed more hens... I think this equation is tending toward infinity.
Your reasoning sounds right to me, but then again I was told on another forum that my 90 chickens I have didn't count do to no body knowing who ordered what !! Long story !!

Good point! I am new so bear with me....... In chicken math - Bantams count as about 1/3 of a chicken 'cause they're little. In coopenometrics, Bantams count as 1/2 a chicken because they can be twice as wide as tall.......with 6 bantam and 5 LF , I need at least 10 sq. ft of pen space per bird......my pen is about 6" shy....so I need to extend the pen.....I used chain link and I certainly want to get made sections instead of rolls....those come in 10'x6'.....so I'm adding another 60 sq ft to the pen. Oh crap! That's not 10 sq ft per chicken! I'm way over..... I have one chicken that counts and 160 sq ft. now! I need 15 birds! Better order chicks, cause adults would disrupt the current happy flock.......but, then I could end up with some roos.......
