If I was going to enter a photo from this group in a contest, I would enter the one with the blue sand ripples.

I would make sure the horizon on the ocean was 100% level.

Unless there is an artist reason for the ocean or other body of water to not be level, it may not be appreciated by the judges. A photo teacher of mine once when to a new artists showing of Big Sur Coast images at the request of the gallery owner. He adjusted all the frames to put the water level....guess that was not the kind of help the gallery owner wanted, but the next day when the show opened, only the level photos remained.

Thanks. What is it about that photo that you like the most?

Most of the photos look like great record shots of a fun vacation. But for a contest, you need an interesting subject, appealing or interesting light or color, in focus and good quality.

For the one I liked, the wavy lines in the sand with the reflected light, the children playing in the sun, and the bright colors draw the eye and tell a story of a fun day on a tropical beach. They appear in focus as do the clouds and the sand ripples.

the dog & parrot pictures look really retouched/edited... i like the other pictures though, for some reason i really love the picture of the black rocks with seaweed on them and the pine tree.
