Please forgive this naive question....NOW WITH PHOTOS (finally)

When I look at the 3rd photo, I think the lighter one is a roo, just going by the comb and the feathers towards the tail, they look a little long. My EE roo started crowing at about 13-14 weeks, my bantam brahma at 8 weeks, and my barred rock at 18 weeks. You can never tell when they will first crow.

Ah darn. I think, based on your photos, I also have two roosters and one hen. Mine are only 3 weeks old, and two have already started to show lighter feathers than the other one. Also, they might be forming a crown already. I will post some pics once I take them.
The same was true for our EE that are now a year and a half. They started out looking like chipmunks with one growing a crown, but they all turned out to be hens.
Goes to show that nothing is 100%. We will wait and see.

I am also starting to wonder about 2 of my NHRs. I will just be sick if we end up with 4 roosters. I'm already attached to all of them!

Well! I took the two suspect chicks back to the ranch I bought them from. They'll take roosters back. I was planning on buying two more pullets close to the same age. HOWEVER! They checked them for me, (neck feathers, saddle and space between the pelvic bones) and they confirmed that they are actually pullets! YAY! I was really happy not to have to "exchange" them!
