Hi everyone. Sorry this will be detailed but want to give all info. over 48 hours ago one of the chicks pipped, she/he begin the zip process, but was rolled around so much by her siblings that we believe she was positioned in a way she couldnt get out. That evening she still sat there with only her face peeking out, trying but exhusted to get out. We decieded she would be the last one to hatch so we quickly took all the others out except for 1 that wasnt dry. My dh wanted to help her, I said no ~ as much as I felt like a jerk. Next morning low and behold another had hatched was dry along with the other one in there. At this point I told him to do what ever he felt would help as this was the end of hatching now. He got her out of shell, completed sticking with membrane and egg shell pieces. I added a wet sponge and left her. After reading some posts I did the warm washcloth wrap in the bathroom with shower on and heat up in house. I did this twice during 8 hours. she still layed limp, but peeped and rolled around. Last night I decided to again bring her to bathroom, but this time dunked her body-not head in 100 degree water. Me and my husband gently was able to remove all of shell pieces and most of membrane. gave her electrolyte, and put her in incubater for night (didnt have set up for 2nd brooder). Also kept the small dish of vitamin water in there with her. I got up twice in the night and gave her electrolytes. Got her a set up in her own brooder. She wont eat even with my help even tried mashed hard boiled egg, she only drinks when I dip her beak into water. She can sit up without falling on her side, but barely moves around. She is aleart. Her left leg isnt working. She doesnt use it or appear to try to. When you hold her up her right leg extends down, but the hurt ones stays up. Is this a case where I need to splint? Any ideas on getting her to eat? She has a stuffed animal for company, and she is next to the other brooder so I'm sure she can hear them. I have held her in with the others, but at this point they would just peck away at her if I put her in with them. Tomorrow is Monday ~ back to work. We wont be able to nurse her as we have this weekend. I know its up to the chick gods if she makes it, but I want also dont want her to suffer, dont think I could cull her unless I saw clear distress, then I still dont know if I could do it. Please give me any suggestions. I would have a picture, but not sure if that would help. I dont even know what is wrong with her leg ~ just know she cant move around.
