Hi m new here I live in Dubai and soon will be moving to ontario. I love animals especially birds, where I live I could keep any kind of animals bcz of the weather conditions especially no snow . I am thinking to grow birds for living but m not sure how to keep them safe especially in winter. Is it recomendable to keep chicken and other birds for living, if not could someone guide me with other options. Hope to hear back from you soon. New joiner Fajis

Yes you can keep birds through the winter in Ontario. You would just need to select heavier breeds that can withstand that climate. You might want to check and see if there is an Ontario thread on here and local bird owners could give you some ideas of what breeds are best. My uncle currently works in Abu Dhabi and he says it is very hot. I'm sure you couldn't keep chickens over there! Good luck.

Thanks for the advice yes ur Uncle is r8 it's too hot but a nice shade n back yard is good enough to keep them safe and my neighbour has many. I raise pigeons n I keep them under the Shade n they are awesome. Do you think from raising birds or chicken I could make enough money for living, the reason m asking this I really want to work with animals but I DNT want to keep them for meat purpose :(

No, I don't think you could make a living off raising birds unless you open a hatchery or poultry farm. If you don't want to eat the poultry you may want to consider just getting pets like cats or dogs. Part of raising chickens is having to be able to control the flock or help end an animal's life if it is suffering. Definitely only get hens when you buy them so you don't have to worry about roosters.
