Hi,

I came out to the barn to find my 3 year old rooster soaked and shaking. He had a horribly bloody face and the upper eyelid of his eye is stuck in the lower lid. I know fights are normal, but this is the worst by far. My guess is that he got trapped in the goats water bucket and our other rooster attacked. I have him laying in the sun next to me at the moment. He is sleeping and occasionally shaking. His voice is incredibly hoarse and he sounds very weak. I have noticed an excess amount of saliva also, which he didn't have yesterday. I need to know if I should put him down or try to bear through it.

Sorry for any spelling mistakes, I'm on my phone.

Thanks for answers in advance

in my opinion, wait it out awhile. make sure he's warm, put medicine like blu-kote on wounds that you can. try to have nothing stress him, & see what happens. i almost put my chick down (8 wks old) & glad i didn't. she's recouperated well. good luck

Don't put him out just yet. Put him under a heat lamp, and if you can get a hold of it, Vetricyn works wonderfully for wounds- especially eye wounds. You can get it at most feed stores. An electrolyte supplement in his water will help him perk up a little as well.

I hope he makes it!

Thanks guys, I've got him in the house with me now. Spoiled boy. I have the heat lamp and hell sleep in a kennel tonight. I really don't want to put him out, he's the nicest rooster I've ever known. My only worry with him is his incredibly low tolerance for pain, more than all of my hems. We have to give him special treatment when he's molting.

Let's hope he gets better..
