Hello. I just discovered my pullet Silkie hen's breast bone is broken. I can't afford a vet bill, so Indeed some advice.
She had always been skinny, and she hasn't been eating or even acting right ( she's lethargic, and her feathers are not growing as fast as the Silkie male which my guess is because her body is concentrating on healing the injury), so I checked her belly and felt a huge portion of the keel bone chipped off. The broken piece is off to the side and is loose within her. I love her and I don't know what to do other than provide her with more than enough food and water.
My question is: Is she going to live or die? And if she lives, what can I do to help her? Have you had chickens who broke their keel bone and lived? I cannot afford to take her to the vet.
