I discovered that the best thing to use on bumblefoot is a herbal and homeopathic 'drawing salve', found at Walmart and, apparently, any pharmacy. I posted about it here (in post #3):

If you're not in the mood to watch youtube videos, I'll give you the 'tl ; dw' : PRID works. It's made of a few herbs and other things and of course there must be quite a few active compounds in there and all of them working synergistically must be the key. I really don't like sounding like an infomercial, but what can I do, seeing the feet of all these poor birds. So this is why I'm urging you to check out the reviews on amazon. People with cystic acne, an infection quite similar to bumblefoot, are VERY PLEASED with how PRID works.

Open the scab--remove it, make a hole, whatever you have to do to get the pus out. Squeeze it out well, and if it fits, use a q-tip swab with betadine on it, if you have it, to clean it out. Or irrigate it out. The pus has to be all out, and the wound has to remain open to drain. Make a bandage to keep it clean. See bumblefoot info on this site and on google, You-tube, and other chicken sites. Clean and sand your perches, make sure there is not poop getting stuck to the bottoms of your chickens' feet. If so, do something about it. Good luck!

Thank you!!! I did!! I came back to ensure what else what left to be done and I neglected the irrigation part. Last thing I did was fill with neosporin. What should I do now??

Thanks again for your time and support!!

Make sure to bandage it, or dirt and poop and other materials will get packed into the wound and cause infection. You Tube will most likely have a video showing how to do it. There are good instructions on Backyard Chickens, The Chick Chic, and other sources. You might want to check out using sand inside your henhouse, and see what you think. I use it instead of shavings because there's no dampness at all; unless the house is overcrowded, the sand dries out the poop and you can clean it by attaching some (metal) hardware cloth to a pitchfork or pole, and use it like a giant kitty litter scoop. I have small houses from online, so I just use a kitty litter scoop! Don't use sand outdoors; it gets too hot, and when it rains it turns completely disgusting. Sand won't keep your chickens warm in the winter; I can use it in the winter because I do provide heat via "Sweeter-Heaters."

If anything HAS gotten into the wound since you cleaned it, you have to get EVERY BIT of it out. Have the bandage ready at your side to put on as SOON as you make sure the wound is COMPLETELY clean. Check the bandage at least daily and change it if it is soiled or damp. (Remember to scrape and then sand your perches to clean them; washing them might raise splinters that will get in their feet. Sometimes roosting too high will damage their feet upon landing on the floor, especially if they are a very heavy breed.)
Good luck to you and your hen!
