PLEASE HELP - CHICK CANT HATCH AND MIGHT BE DYING - should I assist???

Hey Tom, sorry I never got back with you(I'll explain in a private message)
Glad you freed the little guy. He looks good, as for his tummy just see what it looks like tonight, and rubbing a bit of antibiotic ointment on wouldn't hurt, just make sure there is no pain killer in the ointment. I'd leave him in the bator until he can walk. So you'll want to drop the humidity to 30-40% and just let him fluff up and gain his feet. He belly looks full, so he should be okay, but because of his ordeal I'd give him water with electrolytes. :fl

TheTropix, you're more of an expert than me. I appreciate your help, and everyone who chimed in. I'm sorry to say the little guy died during the day today. I got him cleaned up, put some bacitracin ointment on his belly without pain killer in it, and gave him some electrolytes, but he just never got his strength back up.

I'm really glad that I was able to try to save him. I told him I wasn't going to let him die stuck in that egg, and I kept my promise.

I have 5 healthy chicks that hatched along with him, and I will turn my focus to giving them a good start. Thanks everyone for helping, and good luck with all of your hatches.

Tom

Aw Tom, I'm sorry.
FamilyPenDragon is right, you gave a valiant effort, and kept your promise. You're right too, focus on the ones that need you now. Congratulations on the 5! How about a pic of them babies?

Today, I went into the bator to take the chicks body out and bury him in the yard. When I did, his belly burst and infected fluid poured out. I could tell by the horrible smell. This little bird had a bad infection. I don't think it was possible for anyone to save him. That made me feel a little better, because I had been wondering if I could have done something different, or should have acted sooner. Now I am not feeling all of that guilt.

NOW...on to that picture you requested...here's a couple of the new babies:

These 5 chicks are doing great....they all have healthy appetites and they're getting bigger by the minute.

OH TOM!!!! Sorry that happened. I'm glad that you have finally embraced that there was nothing you could have done. You did everything that could have been done, just a very sick baby. NOW.... The fab 5 look wonderful! They look similar to some of the Marans I've hatched. Are they Marans? PURDY

Tom the five little survivors look wonderful :love so cute

I believe they are old english and possibly dutch banatm crosses( I have an adult hen from some babies last year)(if these are from the same parents)

Thanks guys.... Yes, they have the same parents as that hen. I'm not sure what kind they are, but I'll bet Meredith is right.
