PLEASE HELP! Chicken broke her toe off

IF the toe is only hanging on by a piece of skin, cut it off. . Keep her isolated, give her some vitamins in the water and some high energy foods to help jump start her system.

AS FOR HER TOE STUMP: put some neosporin ointment on it, wrap in gauze and use some vet-wrap to protect the toe, If you do not have that use a strip of gauze to wrap the toe and then tie the ends around her leg to keep it from falling off....hope that helps.
Once the toe is healed and scabbed she can go back with her buddies no problem....LOL

I didn't put any Neosporin on her cut because I wasn't sure animals could have it. I used it on a cut that my dog had once and it caused it to become infected. I know that dogs and chickens are very different, its just that after that happened I but it in the human only pile. Lol. Thank you for the info you provided me and I will take care of it that way! :) She will be very happy to get back out to her friends, she isn't to happy being in this dog cage by herself.

Sorry a bout what happen, is your son ok?

Tell him it is, as for the chicken she will be fine too, I've done the same thing to one of mine.

Keep her away from the frock cause they will peck at her toes, once she stops bleeding it will scab nicely.

My hens toe was hanging by the skin too, I just cut it off, see if you can do that.

How is she doing?

My son is doing ok now. He is helping me take care of her. He knows that it was an mistake and he said that he has "learned to be more careful with the door because chickens are faster then lighting McQueen." Lol. Cutting off her toe will be a little hard for me to do with how much she moves around, my husband is going to help me with it once he gets off work today, till then all I can do is keep it clean. She is doing ok this morning. She is moving around a lot more, but she is still favoring her good foot mostly (which is understandable). I just checked on her toe and its pretty swollen compaired to her others. The wound has scabbed over but the toe is still turned to the side and the wound is very much noticeable. It looks pretty bad when she does put pressure on it, so cutting it off may be our best option. I just hate that she will have to be put through some more pain.

You're welcome! The idea is so simple but it is rarely thought of. You need to think of it like this. If you leave it then she will be in far more prolonged pain then the quick snip of an amputation.

Very true, I truly don't want her to be in anymore pain! We went ahead and cut her toe off and bandaged her foot up really good. She ate her meds just fine for me and she is relaxing back in her cage. My husband cut her toe right at the knuckle, so hopefully she will heal up just fine and can go back to being her own chicky self. Lol. Thank you again. I never would have thought that cutting it off would have been best, guess that I will learn plenty more about their care as I go along raising them :)
