Please help! Chicken wing bitten half off. Graphic!

A chicken went missing and I found her this morning with her wing half bitten off. Please help! Can I save or will she have to be culled?

Oh my goodness! I'd say that first thing is gently try to clean the wound with a warm damp paper towel. Make sure chicky is warm and comfortable. Will she/he eat or drink?

Ok, while you are panicked...breathe & calm yourself...which will help to calm her. She's obviously survived a predator attack & besides being in pain is likely in shock.

You do need to clean the wound, yes.

So, a paper towel with warm water drip, daub the area, see what you're working with. You need some betadine, too, I'll wager. And she needs some electrolytes, too, asap. Nutridrench, Pedialyte or make your own solution.

And if your bird is responding to you, she will likely get better. You'll just need to make some adjustments for her handicapped condition. Maybe lowering a perch and an egg box, for instance.

On that other thread it says to apply neosporin after cleaning it, which makes sense. You may also want to trim back the feathers, which won't hurt him/her but will make it easier to see what's going on.

Is it just her wing or does she have any other wounds? If she does, I think that you should clean them as well.

I cleaned the wound and trimmed some feathers. She’s not eating. She acting surprisingly normal though. I have her in the house. She’s not lethargic or anything. She’s walking around just fine.

She may be in some sort of shock. Is she drinking? Make sure she stays hydrated. I'd say that if you aren't actually doing anything to her than have her in a dog crate with shavings or straw on the bottom for bedding , then a towel that you don't mind sacrificing over about half of it.
