Hi there,

My chicken has had really runny poo for awhile now. I took her to the vet and the vet thought she had an intestinal infection so she was on antiobiotics for a week. And she had an injection for worms. So, she's been off that for awhile but she still gets really poopy feathers. So we bathed her and washed and cut some of her feathers. She has this hard, caked on lump of ???? Is it poo? Should we try and get this off? It smells VERY bad. Any help would be really appreciated!!!!!!

Looking at the pics, it's lower than the vent so I'm thinking maybe it's a skin irritation/infection from the poo sitting on that area for too long.. The best advice i can offer is to bathe her with some baby shampoo or dawn dish detergent and let as much of the dead skin come off without scrubbing it.. you don't want to irritate her even more.. After her bath, use a blow dryer on a low heat setting and dry her really well and then apply neosporin *without* pain reliever on the sore spot and see if it starts to heal. If you become overly concerned, you could always call the vet that treated her for the internal infection and see if they have anything for it...
