Please help! Chicken wound from dog :(

Just got off the phone with a vet that can help her! Appointment tomorrow at 2:30. He's an avian specialty doctor, he's not in today unfortunately. I'm going to have my mom take a closer look after she's done with work. I'll check that link out here in a bit. Whatever it is, it's about the size of a marble... she's pooing just fine, hasn't laid an egg and that worries me, I've read stories about how bad it is if one gets stuck. :( I was able to take a picture of her rump, if I can figure out how to private message on here I'll send it.

I did reply to the PM, you are doing the right thing by her to go see a professional. The stress of nearly having been killed could be as much the reason she isn't laying. It could also be that she is spending her energy trying to heal and so lacks enough calories to be doing both or there could be some damage we are not seeing. This is where the opinion of a professional becomes important. You are doing all the right things. Keep it up!

Thank you and thanks for replying to the pm. I'll keep you updated on what the doc says. Crossing fingers for a clean bill of health and her just needing time to mend! :)

I am more than happy to keep offering you morale support, do let me know what the good Dr. has to say about Rose. The bruising does look icky but considering how well he is getting around and eating and just being an active curious bird my expectations are that Rose will be with you for years to come.

Will do! I sure hope so! Had to put her back in her little room to rest. I let her come outside with me to change the ducks pool water and little did I know.. the other girls were rite around the corner she spotted them and started heading for her friends. Had to scoop her up and bring her back in. Eeek. Not going to do that again

Of course it is natural for her to want to rejoin the flock. Do be sure to wash your hands before and after handling her as chickens are vulnerable to a number of bacteria and viruses that are communicable by humans especially since she has injuries near areas you have to touch. It is very encouraging that she is getting around and eager to get back to regular chicken activities.

Update: we went to the doctor today and she's going in for possible surgery tomorrow. She examined her but with the Blu kote on her she couldn't really see what's going on. It's evident that she has an infection because we can smell it. There's also a tough spot on her left side that she thinks might be dead tissue, if it is...they'll debrine her and fix her up. :) She's really lethargic today, not moving a whole lot. Doc also prescribed aspirin for the pain and a 15 min Epsom salt bath tonight. **Just in case anyone else comes across this post when looking for treatment of an injured chicken..low dos aspirin is the best pain reliever for chickens and triple antibiotic is ok but she prescribed buck mountain would balm**

Thank you for the update. I feel comfortable saying once more that taking her to the Dr. was a good idea. I am keeping an eye on this thread so please let me know how her situation develops. Best wishes.

Will do! I told her about you today after she complimented how well we were handling her after the attack as a semi-new chicken keeper. I said "I couldn't have done it without chicken chaser and the other friendly people on backyardchickens.com, without them, I'm not sure we would have made it this far..." So thank you again for all your tips and support.
We're getting ready for our Epsom salt bath now. :)
