PLEASE HELP! CHICKENS ATE ABOUT 10-15 CHERRY PITS!

Hi,

I just gave my chickens cherries without pitting them! I didn't even think about it! I sure didn't think they would eat them! My mom says they will just come out of their poop but I am not sure about that! Please help! I don't want my babies to die!

I heard that cherry pits are toxic though.....

Its the kernel that is poisonous. Can they crack the shell? I doubt it. It will pass through same as it entered. Now if you break up the pits so they can eat the kernel than that is not a good plan.

They'll poop them out and plant more cherry trees!

Cherry pits are actually designed to be eaten by birds. They don't germinate well unless they've been through a bird's crop and digestive system. Then the bird poops them out far from the original tree. Evolution is awesome.
