Please Help! Chirping, then no chirping. Should I help?

Usually if they don't hatch within 24 hours of pipping, I slowly remove some of the shell around the pip and if there is movement and I don't see any blood vessels I will slowly proceed to pick off more shell. If there is no movement the chick may have died. Sometimes after the chick has pipped and not started zipping it can still be absorbing the yolk.

Thank you Cmom!! I'm going to keep an eye on the time and intervene after I'm sure 24 hours have passed. How do you make sure humidity stays up in the incubator though, when there's other eggs that have external pips?! Terrified of doing the wrong thing and ending up drying their membranes out and hurting them!

One chick is now trying to make the hole a bit bigger!

Your incubator is way different than mine. You can put a damp sponge in it. Also if you take the chicks out, you can mist the remaining eggs with warm water and that will take the humidity up immediately but it won't stay. Some chicks pip and zip and hatch in nothing flat and others take their sweet ole time.

Thank you!!! We had a bit of a scare with one of them last night (posted in separate thread as he had blood on his bum!) and sadly we lost one who was struggling for a long time, but pipped externally without pipping internally at all and he was then shrink wrapped... There's one remaining egg that hasn't piped at all, no idea what's going on there but will give it a bit of time. One chick has a splayed or twisted leg and I've spent the morning trying to make him a tiny brace and looking for chicken b vitamins!

BUUUUT we have FOUR healthy, fluffy wonderful chicks!!! It's absolutely magical, incredible and just awesome!!! Thanks soooo much for your help and for keeping me sane through this process for the first time!! Was nerve wracking!!

Congratulations on your babies and good luck with the unhatched one. It can take up 25 days to hatch, I’ve never had to wait that long, but some on here have. Have you candled it to see what’s happening?

Yes! I candled it this morning, it looks like it's not piped internally yet which is odd but there's a blob of something in the air cell which is really weird. I've been googling but I'm not sure what that could be.

Can you post a pic of your egg? Someone here can probably tell you.
