Today is day 28. Of 8 eggs only 3 have made it this far. One was infertile and the other four mysteriously disappeared my post about that here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...d-after-two-week.1514105/page-2#post-25505780
I have now candled 3 times most recently last night I candled and there was movement in two of the eggs. On one I could even hear chirping and the egg was moving in my hand like the chick was pecking at the shell. Pic below is that internal pip?? This picture was taken last night 3/22/22 around 9 pm right now it is around 11:30 am on 3/23/22 and there is no sign of external pip or any other progress that I can see however I have heard some more chirping.

I live in Northern Vermont and it is still below freezing most days and they have been under a broody hen out in the coop.

If you can hear chirping, that guarantees there's an internal pip because they need air to vocalize, so the chick must be breathing air from the air cell. When did you first hear the chirping? They take a break between internal and external pip, to rest, so it can be a while before you see the external pip. Moving and chirping are good signs though! Fingers crossed these babies make it to the finish line!

Ok thanks that makes me feel better. I first heard chirping yesterday night around 8 or 9 pm.
