I came home from work yesterday to my duck having his webbing torn all the way up to his ankle and I took him to the vet and he got stitches. The vet put the stitches on the flap on his toe instead of the cut for some reason maybe it was a mistake. But today when I got home his foot and leg were covered in maggots. They got laid in his wound before I found him yesterday is what I think. So they ate some tissue and his toe that got cut is turning black. I’m taking him to the vet in the morning when they open but is there anything I can do before then?

I’d definitely take him to a vet first thing in the morning, I would be worried about an infection in his toes. I don’t see any maggots on the foot, if there are you can soak that leg in some Epsom salt water for a few minutes to get them off, but what I would do regardless is apply Neosporin or a triple antibiotic ointment and slather it all over that foot. Keep him in a warm, dry, stressful free area away from flies.

Idk if it the same with ducks, but it you see red streaks traveling up his leg get him to the vet IMITATELY! Streaks mean that a infection is traveling up his leg towards his heart. I had this happen to me once whenever I got a VERY infected hangnail. Streaks were moving up my arm and it hurt really bad. ( went to the ER. Don't know if this apples to avians)
