Please help I have already lost two birds in a similar fashion and now I have two more sick!!!!! I have penicillin and come other drugs but need to know dosages before I give any!

1) What type of bird , age and weight.

I believe they are New Hampshire Red crosses. They are retired factory farm birds so I dont know how old they are, but they are what the factory calls a spent hen. THey are very very very thin.... weighing approx 2-3 pounds.... But have weighed over 5 in the past.

2) What is the behavior, exactly.

They are lethargic... when they lay down they are unable to stand again, and do not seem to have proper use of their feet. Once I get them standing they are able to stand one can walk around and when the other one tries she falls over.

3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.

None

4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

I am unsure, it has been extremely hot lately and I know when the other birds passed it was also hot.

5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.

Nothing today but they always have access to water and they eat a poultry feed made by Seminole Feed.

6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Runny

7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
nothing I dont even know where to begin, I have them inside my home in a box and in front of a heat lamp because they do feel very cold.

8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?

Our large animal vet will not see birds and I have taken them to 2 different clinics who also dont treat birds, so I think I am on my own...

9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

10) Describe the housing/bedding in use

they get sun coast large pine flakes as their bedding...

They are too weak to stand if they are at that weight. They probably have had the runs for awhile. If you give them a shot of penicillyn they will not benefit from it as they do not have the ability to metabolize it at this time.

Keep them in a room that you are comfortable in. They can't regulate their own body temperature right now.

Go to a vet and buy some IV saline. Inject it under the skin at the back of their necks in three different spots. You will see the skin puff up a little at the site from the volume of liquid injected.

Try to tempt them with yogurt, pedialyte, egg yolks.

Do they have mites or lice?

Treat with tetracyline when they are able to stand.

These birds are in such bad shape little else can be done. Sorry
