My pet sitter separated my hen out while I was on vacation because she couldn’t walk. I came back and and all I noticed was an extremely swollen jaw and hard ears
and waddles right away. There is also black discoloration that appears to be dying tissue. I have no idea what to do and I doubt she has much time to spare because when I checked her mouth it appears she won’t even be able to eat or drink with the swelling and stiffness even with assistance.

I also checked her Breast bone and crop and she is not underweight but her crop was completely empty. I examined her whole body and there was no other signs. She looks more lively then the photo my pet sitter sent but I’m extremely concerned and this looks so uncomfortable for her. Please if anyone knows what this could be let me know because I have no idea what this could be or how it happened.

It would be a good idea to seek vet care, if possible.

I don't believe I've ever seen anything like that, even in photos.

Can you get the beak open at all? If so, then you may be able to tube feed her.

Could she have been bitten by something poisonous?

Hopefully someone else can chime in that may have seen this.

If you lose her, sending the body to your state lab will give you the most information. https://www.metzerfarms.com/poultry-labs.html

What is your location in the world? Are you having winter cold weather or hot summer weather? Frostbite can cause black wattles. But if you are in the northern hemisphere, I would look for other causes. Where was the chicken separated to, and what was the bedding?
