Hello:
We're having problems with Shirley, and we're not sure what to do. In short, the sides of her face between her beak and eyes are swollen. Two weeks ago we began treatment with Terramycin ointment in her eyes with no success. Then, a week ago we treated the entire flock with terramycin in the water. No change. Only the 1 bird has symptoms.
1. Buff Orpington, 3 years old, "normal" weight.
2. Behavior is normal: eating, drinking, pooping, assertive, rude. Still laying.
3. Symptoms have been going on for 2 weeks.
4. No other birds have the same symptoms.
5. No injury / trauma.
6. No idea what happened.
7. Eating, drinking, bossy. First one to the treats, as usual.
8. Poop - normal.
9. 1 week treating her with Terramycin ointment. No success. 1 more week treating entire flock with terramycin. Again, no change.
10. We're open to various treatment options. However, we're reluctant to take her to the vet and spend a lot of money. She's 3, she's rude. She's not our favorite, but we want to do the right thing.
11. It looks like she has a small marble between her right eye and her beak. On the other side, an even smaller marble. No change in 2 weeks.
12. Pine shavings for bedding, a-frame wood coop, shared with 5 roommates.
Many thanks for your help, experience, and advice!
