Please help - Hiccup like sound

That is a sneeze or snick, common with either something irritating the nostrils or a respiratory infection. Infectious bronchitis virus is one that can cause sneezing every few minutes for several weeks. It usually spreads through the flock over weeks to months. First, I would look at your coop ventilation and make sure they have plenty of overhead ventilation. Prevent any direct drafty air on the chickens though. Smell for any ammonia odors, look for water spills which can lead to mold formation. Things like that may cause sneezing. But dust in the feed is a common temporary cause of sneezing.

Well, that is not a diagnosis first of all. Try to see if they sneeze only right after eating. Check nostrils for any food stuck. If it is infectious bronchitis, it does not respond to antibiotics which might treat some other diseases such as MG. Bronchitis virus lasts around 3 weeks in most chickens, and it spreads through the whole flock. Have you added new chickens recently? Chickens with infectious bronchitis virus remain carriers for 5 months to a year. My flock had it once eventually spreading to the whole flock, and after they all recovered, I just did not add any new birds for a year to limit its spread.

Are they doing this this morning? There is no rush here, so I would observe them today, to see how they are acting. Note any ammonia odors, dust or other environmental irritant in the coop and run. When my chickens got IB virus, they sneezed often, but they acted normally. Wrinkled egg shells can be common during an outbreak. All chickens can survive sneeze occasionally, so hopefully, nothing serious is wrong.

Hello @Firstimeaustralorpe, We have a hen that sounds exactly like what your girl is doing. As a precaution, we did treat for respiratory with Doxy-Tyl powder in the water for 7 days. She is no longer sneezing to the extent she was - all day throughout the day - still occasionally sneezes, otherwise not presenting with anything viral or bacterial. Following @Eggcessive's advice will never steer you wrong. Without knowing where you live, could it possibly be pollen? We are experiencing a green / yellow haze on everything as we are entering high pollen season and are extremely dry devoid of rain so I am attributing our sneezes to this. I just wanted to provide reassurance with this input. Hopefully it's nothing serious. Congratulations on your newness to chickens. Enjoy your flock. Your birds are beautiful.
