i have a 4 week old white rock...and until a few days ago..she has been doing great..growing..eating well..etc...well last week i went to buy some more chick food.. and when we brought it home and opened it..it was not the crumbly stuff that my chicks had been used to..this new stuff was very fine....not crumbles..but i thought nothing of it...
..and have been feeding it..well, a couple of days ago..i noticed my white rock was not herself...and i picked her up to check her out..and noticed in her beak..there was food caked up inside...so, i cleared it out...and, thought that was why she was acting weird..the next day..i checked again..same thing..but she was more lethargic(sp.?), weak.....so today..i called my feed store and went there with the food i had been feeding her...they said that it was mash.??..not crumbles..and said that could be why it was caking up in her beak..so..i bought more crumbles for her...but by this point..i knew she needed something more..because she was weak...so i boiled an egg and mashed it up..and mixed it with the mash...and added warm water to make a soft food for her...well she ate like a pig...so..i took all the mash out of the feeder...and just gave her crumbles...but...just now...i went to check her..and again...her beak was full of food..just kind of stuck to the roof of her mouth...i had to use a q-tip to clear it out..WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER??..so, i tried to just feed her the dry crumbles from my hand...and she acted like she couldnt grip them...also..i noticed her beak is kind of hooking over a bit....could that be the problem?...please help..has anyone had this problem?..should i feed her food wet?..or will that contribute to the caked food in her beak?...wendy
