please..help..i cant figure out whats wrong with my white rock....

thanks d.k., she is the same today...i have tried several times to feed her the wet mash with boiled eggs mashed together..and i think she does get a little of it down...but...after a few bites..i notice the same problem..its just caking to the roof of her mouth...then she will open her mouth up..and try to shake it out...but i usually have to clean it out myself...i called a vet...(cant find ANY close by me)..he thinks it may be something physical with her..not a disease..but to seperate her(like you guys told me)..so..right now i have her dry food in there and i notice her trying to eat..but she has to work at it.or something...like she cant grab it..or something...i dont know...but she has not lost the drive to eat....so....were still trying to save her....thanks, Wendy

okay..i tried something different with her..i used 1 whole raw egg, with mash(chick starter) and added water to make it very thin...only a bit thincker than water..and she ate almost the whole thing..her crop is full!!

...and while we were watching her eat...we all noticed the same thing..her beak is not working correctly...it still opens and closes...but the grabbing of food is the problem...and now we see thats WHY her beak was getting caked with food and she was choking...when she was eating..she had to gulp(or scoop) big bites..not peck, like the others....so now what?..what does that mean?..could her jaw be broke somehow?...(it still opens and closes)...but as i said in a earlier post..the tip of it seems kinda long..and hooked over a little bit...but just a little...so...any ideas..thanks again..Wendy

Hi Wendy, sorry I am going to be of no help, but I just read through all of these post. Sorry it makes me crazy when I don't know what to do. I am sure glad she ate good, do you not think filing her beak will help? Keep us posted on how she is doing.

thanks Ericasl...yes..thats what hurts me the most..not knowing exactly what to do...and also the fact that she has such a high drive to eat and live....its killing me....and i think i may file it down tomorrow..i'll have my mother come over to help me...i'm just worried cause shes so young(only 4 weeks)..i dont want to mess her beak up...thanks so much:), Wendy

* There's several things it could be. Yeast is one. Something inorganic that she swallowed, maybe. Or, the overlong beak. Or something else. I would probably emery board the beak some and see if that helps. Glad you found a way to feed her in the meantime.

It almost sounds like something might be lodged in her throat so that she cannot swallow. Perhaps a blockage of some sort? Something she cannot swallow, or even a growth. You need to have a vet examine her throat.

also..check her crop and see if it has a lump in it..

do try to file the beak..
the "hook" might be causing an arch..and causing it to not work properly.
maybe if you file the beak, it will straighten out..

best to take to a vet..an avian vet if possible.
