Our dog got my 18 wk. old chicken and ran with her into the woods. I was gone at the time. My grand-daughters told me and with the dogs help I located the chicken. She definitely lost some feathers but I can't find any bleeding wounds just bruised looking skin and some missing and broken feathers. I have her separated but she has only taken one little sip of water and pecked at a tomato. So she doesn't seem to be eating or drinking. She is panting, her tail seems to be bobbing, and she closes her eyes while standing. She pooped but it was about 1" long by about 1/8 diameter surrounded by watery white rather than the firmer white normally seen on the poo part. Color of poop seems normal. Is she just in shock? Is there anything I can do for her other than just watch her? I am hoping for reassurance because I just lost 3 chickens to an unknown predator and another to I THINK natural causes.

I don't know enough to have an informed opinion, but I hope it turns out to be a stress reaction and not injury. Fingers crossed for you!

She is probably still scared. How would you feel if a slobbery monster took you to the woods and pulled your feathers out?

She is still hanging in. Pooed again. A little bigger but still the watery urate. I guess that there is no blood is a good thing. I put her in the coop and the other dom pecked at her a little bit and she didn't even flinch, so I put her back i solitary. I thought it maybe would have been comforting for her to be with her buds. Still watching, waiting, hoping.

She was a little spunkier today. She grabbed a bug in her water. But I can feel her breast bone. Hopefully she wil eat more today. Poop still isnt quite right.
