Oh I didn't do mine, no way. There was too much gristle up there and way too close to the body. We were setting my turkey pullet down (using her body, not the wing-hold way of carrying them) and she flapped her wings up against my boyfriend to stabilize herself. She dislocated her wing and the end joint popped through the bone. It was really just messy.
So I took her to the vet the next day and had him do it. It looks beautiful though - I must say. I was thinking of putting her back outside today with her buddies since she's getting restless in my bathtub, and it's only been 11 days now. But in her amputation, because the joint continues to make joint-fluid even if there's no other bone there, he cut the bone midway to remove the ball-end. Then wrapped the muscle over the bone end (to protect the skin), stitched it to itself, and then wrapped the skin over that - putting the "seam" deep under her wing where she would be less likely to pick it.
Pretty neat stuff!
