This would be my first try to post some images to this board
t1869.gif

This is the link to the entire album: http://picasaweb.google.com/1034166...authkey=Gv1sRgCJT065nGqM_o7wE&feat=directlink - it has larger images that can be zoomed in - I also put links to pics in this album above each picture from uploads.

Our chickens are a bit over 3 moths old. We had 24 healthy chicks hatched. The favorite one of my daughters (although a roo) disappeared couple weeks ago, so we are left with 23. I think at least 13 of them a roos. (when I was buying 3 doz eggs for the incubator, I was hoping to end up with at least a dozen hens... oh well)

1) This lady(?) starts to get orange feathers. But it is a hen, right?

- I thought The Book (the one for dummies) gave me the answer (if it crows, it's a roo), but now that I've noticed this thread... well, what do you think?

I also don't know what breeds they are. They are mixes, I am sure - I think their grandparents were ordered from a website (McMurray?), but then each family (with parents and grandparents) just kept one roo, while chickens were different colors.

Thanks a lot!

Aloha,

I believe that they may be all males except the pure Black Bearded one. I believe that that bird is a girl. The last one is a Male (Black with little white on it's chest.) This first picture is a late blooming male, my opinion. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for your time!

Which one is that? Which one is Black Bearded? The number 3?

Well, there are 4 birds total - I have numbered them 1), 2), 3) and 4). Which ones do you think are roos?

So if this sort of chicken is getting orange feathers, it means it's a roo? How else do you tell about this one that he is a roo?
