Hi! I have 10 little egg laying chicks. They are 5-6 days old. I think I know their breeds and genders, but need your help to be certain. Number 10 is tiny and feisty so I wasn’t able to get a very good picture of its wings. Thanks for your help!

9 and 10 look like cockerels to me.
3 looks like a cockerel.
1 looks like a pullet.
8 kind of looks like a cockerel becouse of how small the wings are and the tail hasn't started growing yet.

Feather sexing is more or less a wives tale that forever circulates, it has to be bred for, it doesn't apply to 90% of chicks.
Too early to tell either with certainty. Repost pictures in 6 weeks.

It's definitely not an accurate way to tell. It has worked with all my chicks except my silkies. It's worked great for all my laying hen backyard mixes. It even sort of worked for my bantam brahmas at around 10 days old. And all of them I got right. I'm not saying you're wrong. In fact, I think you're right, it doesn't apply to all chicks and it's definitely not 100% accurate, but personally it gives me a better idea of what I have.

I think you are right. I think number 8 is definitely a cockerel. He has looked different from the others since Day 2. His wings are tiny and the feathers are all one length. Of the 4 whites, one of them took longer to show the wings sticking out…probably number 3. I wasn’t sure about 9 and 10. I was thinking one or both are cockerels. Time will tell. Thank you for your feedback.

Way too early for genders.
If you ordered sexed pullets then you have a good chance that at least 90% of them are. Do you have a list of the breeds that you’re supposed to have? It would help us narrow down what breeds you may have. I assume you got them from a hatchery? If so, which one? This is also helpful as certain hatcheries carry breeds that others do not have.
Many breeds are chipmunk striped as chicks and can be difficult to determine until they feather out.
Thanks for posting all the different photos but most of the photos do not show the color of the chicks legs. Are any of them feathered?😊

Thank you for your response. I didn’t realize that it had to be bred for. I will repost pictures in 6 weeks.

Do you agree that 3, 8, 9, and 10 look like cockerels?

Thank you for your response. All of their legs look the same to me except the black/white ones have a blueish hue running down the fronts. I don’t see any feathers on their legs. I think they are Leghorns, Rhode Island Reds, and Barred Rocks. This is all new to me. I have a home for 1 rooster and I can keep 1 or 2 as long as I have enough hens for them. That is why I am trying to get an idea of what I have. I need to prepare. They sure are adorable…that is the only thing certain right now. 😀
