Dear friends of BYC I have a very specific question: My Embden goose ate a very tiny piece of metal (an alloy) yesterday morning. Today she seems fine eating and playing around... Should I still worry? Could she be affected later on? Thank you for any help!

Always a risk, but when an animal has eaten something you know is inedible, you can deal with it a few ways. Depends on the perceived risk; is it so sharp you expect it to become lodged somewhere within the animal? If it's blunt enough it should go through. Dangerous trying to vomit something sharp obviously.

If it's small enough that it will go straight through, I'd assist it on its way with a dose of cold pressed olive oil, at least two tablespoons for a large goose, even more won't hurt though it may give them the runs temporarily. If the animal in question is hard to handle, olive oil soaked bread works too, and the bread can help shift the metal as well.

Wow! Thank you so much for all these tips! So far, BYC has helped me with raising my geese and ducks, so I decided to join your company and get some help too... It is the only forum that includes everything so thank you all for that!
I will do as you say with olive oil and I will hope for the best. There was a round tiny clip that held my silver chain together, really small, but my cute curious Ms goose, playful as always, grabbed it from my neck before I even noticed. I was fast enough to grab the chain away from her beautiful beak I think generally speaking. Fiuf!!! After giving her bread completely soaked in olive oil (thank God she is the easiest animal to handle, big enough and loves to eat :-D) I'll keep waiting to see reactions the following days. I wish nothing weird occurs. I will keep you posted! Thank you loads!!!
