First time chicken owner.
Ok, so I have 3 day old chicks (28 of them), we have had them for 24 hours.
They have poop on there butts.
They get Super Booster in their water. (Which the hatchery recommended, they should be on it for 4 to 5 days)
Their area is kept at 32 degrees C.
They seem happy, running, drinking, eating, chirping, sleeping.

I have read that this is (?) Pasty Butt and I should give them yogurt and hard boiled egg yolk and wash there butts.
My concern is that I'm giving them super booster which is a antibiotic and vitamin premix for chickens and the probiotic yogurt will conflict or something. And what should their poop be like? How do I know if they are compacted and can't poop.

Thanks in advanced for all the help.

Pasty butt is not uncommon in chicks. Just soften the dry poop with a damp paper towel or rag and wipe it off to keep the butt clear. The probiotic in the yogurt wont conflict, but I wouldn't give them much yogurt since the chick crumble should be their main source of nourishment. If they are running around like they are feeling fine and the dry poop is off their butts then they are not compacted.

I really dislike giving chicks antibiotic's just because they are chicks, and it certainly won't help their gut or help clear up the pasty butt issue. If it were me, I'd just put some powdered probiotic's in their water and nix all the other stuff and the yogurt and just let them eat their chick starter.

I don't like the idea of giving them antibiotics either. It was highly recommended by the hatchery, that is the only reason I'm doing it. I think your right I may take them off of it.
I'm a believer of Apple Cider Vinegar, I drink some with juice every day. I read to put some in their water to help with the problem, I'm thinking of doing that. I live in the smallest of towns and I doubt I'll find powdered probiotic's. So I'll have to use yogurt.

Is their poop supposed to be hard?

Thank you.

Actually I was going to mention raw ACV in my post and completely forgot! I have used that in the past, a teaspoon to a quart of water, and it cleared up pasty butt right away. It does have to be the raw, unpasteurized kind, that's probably what you already have.

As far as chick poop, your chicks will offer you several varieties lol! Some will be firm, others are cecal poops that are more like pudding, all normal. What to watch for....chicks with consistently runny poops who just don't feel well and just sit around, puffed up, not wanting to eat/drink. These are signs of coccidiosis, good idea to keep Corid on hand to treat right away if you see that.

Good stuff, Thank you. I'll be switching to ACV tonight.
My chicks have been vaccinated for Coccidiosis, so they should be good in regards to that, I hope.
Glad to know that runny poop is normal and comes in all forms. This experience is turning out to be fun and funny.

BIG THANK YOU ALL
