So I have a rooster who has been very aggressive towards my girls. He would grab the backs of their necks and drag them. Or stand on them. I’m assuming he’s mating.
Yesterday I noticed my favorite little silkie girl was just laying in the run. He went over to her and got on top of her, she wasn’t moving. I threw water on him (because it’s what was in my hands) and she still didn’t move. I ran in and grabbed her and she wasn’t moving much.
Long story short...
I don’t have a rooster anymore, and she’s in my garage being given water, probiotics, electrolytes, and vitamins. I gave her a bath, she perked up last night but now she’s doing pretty bad again. Her neck seems fine, she moves it. But now she has her beak open and breathing not heavy, but heavier than normal. But is calm otherwise. She won’t stand now.

PLEASE HELP.

Hopefully she is just a bit shocky and does not have pelvic or other skeletal injuries. Time will tell the tale. Good luck.

Thank you! I hope so too! Do you know how long shock could last?

Unfortunately chickens will do this to other chickens that are I'll, dieing or even just died . I dont know why but they do. She may already have been badly and he sensed it? I could possably not be his fault. However even being vegetarian i do beleive that if an aggressively over enthusiastic mater is causing damage to others in the flock then they have to be removed. Even culled if a sutable alternitive cant be found. Passing the trouble on to others and having it harm their flock isnt they way, it possibly cold harted but sometimes the hard decision has to be made, hopefully your little 1 will recover

Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it. She seemed fine to me earlier in the day, nothing abnormal but I guess maybe we can’t always tell.
I wish I could have kept him, but when I removed her and he hurt two others it just wasn’t going to work.

Absolutly!
You cant think of it from the cockerels point of view you have to see it as keeping the flock safe and healthy. A good chicken keeper ( checken owner , parent, mother , dad lol) realises We have a responsibility to them and the heart aching decisions have to be made at times . Obviously you just proved you have the right stuff .

I don’t know what happened to her but she passed. I think she may have had sour crop. And when draining I think she aspirated.
Thank you again.

Thank you so much. I’ve been a ball of tears since it happened. I can’t believe I could love a chicken this much.
Hi dear, I’ve just been in a very similar situation, mine also passed with no visible injuries. Your thread appeared as related content so I read it. I know it’s been a while but anyways I’m sorry, it’s true from the outside most people don’t know you can love a chicken that much, but damn..
