Was wondering if I could get some advice. I have been incubating some chick eggs...today is day 18. Last night...late on day 17 i accidently dropped one of the eggs while candling it. It cracked pretty bad but didn't break the membrane or hurt the air cell any. I quickly sealed off the cracks with candle wax and put it back in the bator. I didn't think it would be alive but to my surprise thi morning y was still moving around. I left it alone all day but a few minutes ago when i went to put them on lock down I candled it one more time to make sure it was still alive. Well it is alive but it has now pipped internally. It's only day 18...will it run out of air before day 21? I really want it to make it. Thanks

No, it won't run out of air most likely. All chicks don't hatch on day 21 (sometimes earlier and sometimes later). Your chick will wait until it's ready to hatch/externally pip and lots of times chicks internally pip to breathe and wait a while to finish hatching until their yolk sac is absorbed. And again, the chick does NOT have to hatch on 21. (Your chick will probably hatch early!)
P.S. If the chick hasn't externally pipped within 24 hours or so I would consider making a hole in the egg where the air cell is.

Thats what i wondered...if I should make him an air hole after a certain amount of time. I think its day 18...not sure if u count from when u put them in the bator or after the first 24 hrs. I put them in around 2 pm on the 1st. Do you think the wax will keep it from externally pipping? So worried lol. Thanks for the advice :)

If you put the eggs in the incubator on May 1 at 2:00 pm, then day 1 would be over on May 2 at 2 pm. So days are counted every 24 hours.
