I am on day 17. I took an egg out to candle it and I noticed a crack. I thought I had put it there so I put wax on it. As I was applying the wax I heard it peep. I am guessing it has internally pipped. Question is: do I take the wax back off or leave it alone? Do I go ahead and put them in lock down? Or just turn turner off and put in lockdown tomorrow?

What breed are these? Was temperature at 99.5F?

I would say yes, get the wax off, and yes, put them in lockdown now.

I do a four or five day lockdown as I'm hatching silkies and they inevitably will pip early. Day 17 is unheard of though. My earliest was Day 18. The last week of rotation isn't really even necessary as they're big and move around and can't get stuck, so you don't need to worry about that.

I was going to move them to my broody chicken. I guess I'm too late now 😭

No, you still could, but in that case, I'd leave the wax on. I just would have wanted it off in the incubator as in two days they're not going to get an infection and die, but under an unsanitary hen, I'd be wary.
