15-16 week old tetra... I don't see any point saddle feathers on her but someone suggested she may be a rooster? I have not heard any crowing from her either. Here are some pics! Thanks for your opinions!
I agree. Trixie's a beautiful pullet! I have 2 tetra tints that will be laying in at least 2 weeks! (Can't wait) They look just like yours except for mine have smaller combs. Congrats on your beauty!
Thank you so much... I'm still uncertain though. I've heard no crowing from her, see no saddle fethers....I just worry that her comb is so large that she may be a Roo? Anyone have a reason you think she is still our "hen"?
she has a slightly larger comb because of the leghorn. Leghorn hens have much larger combs than other single comb hens. The color of the comb is just an indication of how close she is to laying.
I agree, she's a pullet reaching point of lay. That nice big red comb means she's reaching sexual maturity and getting ready to lay. If she had that much comb at say 8 weeks, that would be a male indicator. That's why we always ask age when sexing a bird. But at her age, she's nice and feminine looking, a pretty young lady!
Oh... lovely! this makes me very happy. This is our first flock and when someone suggested she may be a Rooster... I felt very uneasy...after everything I've read and about what "she" may be. As we were hoping to only have a flock of ladies!
