I’m very depressed and I have nobody to turn too except my friendly backyard chicken owners here

I was examining my chicks sex, by a method by holding him/her from the head and letting his/her feet hang from a forum I read on Internet, now my chick is limping and closing his/her eyes, I tried giving it some water and sugar but it doesn’t seem to be working, out of my flock this is my most favourite chick, can someone please tell me what to do and how to save it from dying?

Sorry I can't help with the injury that you caused. In order to help prevent others from doing the same.

1. This method does not work and will not accurately predict the sex.
2. The proper method is to hold the chick so that its wings rest on your thumb and hand. Do Not hold the chick by its head or neck.

I don't know that you can do much other than let it be and see if it recovers. Isolate it if you can, so the other chicks don't step on it or knock it around. Make sure it has food and water, and is warm. Not hot - that can cause more harm than good.

I saw that method of sexing chickens on line as well. I'm thinking how would I feel if someone lifted me up by my head? I did try that method one time but NO it's not for me. My chicks survived the ordeal with no long term damage. I think that is a myth, maybe not but never the less in my book it's cruel. I'm so sorry and hope your chick will mend. In my research on sexing chicks I found https://articles.extension.org/pages/65437/sexing-day-old-chicks-on-small-and-backyard-flocks to be very informative. Perhaps you will too. What breed are your chicks?
