Hi there, everybody. Could somebody please help with this sick hen?

She is a year old yesterday, an Ameraucana/Easter Egger from a feed store as a day old chick, I have had her since then. She has never laid an egg, and has always seemed 'off' but functioned and lived quite happily. It was not until about 11 months old that she started having other symptoms.

Symptoms: Lathargic, drunk walking and no balance, falling forward whenever she tries to move, white/green liquid poop, and stopped eating and drinking a day or so ago. Her eyes are totally alert and active, but she is panting a little bit. No sneezing, coughing, or runny nose, eyes or beak, and no blood in poop. She is the only one showing symptoms, everybody else has been or seems fine.

She has lost a LOT of weight, and I wormed my flock thoroughly this past fall. They eat all purpose pellets, and are housed in an 8x8 coop with pine shavings. The sick hen's crop isn't impacted either, it's empty right now but within the last week she had a full crop but still had the runny poop.

Please help!!!!

Thank you in advance!!!!

I can only suggest giving her some antibiotics. I'm sure someone else will have better advice so will at least bump the thread up. Good luck.

could be coccidiosis? Runny poop?

I had an EE hen last year with similar symptoms...I flushed her crop with a syringe of water, corn syrup, epsom salt, and a bit of yogurt. This can be a last ditch effort to clean their crop out and start new "good bugs" in their gut. Mine did fine after flushing her and feeding her with yogurt and vitamins.

there are threads on there that talk about crop flushing and can tell you specificas, good luck!

It sounds like Mareks disease to me. My old 1 year old hen had the same symptoms ( the Lethargicness, drunkeness/poor balance, not eating/drinking) and she lost a lot of weight and we made the discisioun to put her to sleep.

Is your chicken losing it's feathers?

PS I'm not trying to scare you.
I wish you the best of luck.
