Hello all
I have 6 chickens purely for laying (hybrids) but I have always wanted to breed chickens
I can only get bantams as the family think that a large rooster would be too loud. I have a seperate pen for the breeding pair/trio/quartet???. I would like if the breed was able to pay its way a bit, that I could sell the chicks and eggs or something
Any ideas for what breed
Thanks in advance

Well if you really want a large rooster/breed to breed not all standard roosters crow loudly or much. I have two standard roosters and neither doesn't crow that much (unless they notice something out of the ordinary).
As for breeds for breeding it depends where you are. I've gone to the Northeast Congress Poultry show and seen a 2 month old silkie pullet go for $40! Then at the same show someone else was selling a standard cochin pair for $100.
In my opinion go for a breed that you like (because you will be the one caring for them and seeing them everyday). There will always be people out there wanting to buy chickens and most of the time (I shouldn't say most of the time, but you get the idea) they don't care what they look like as long as they lay eggs.

Thanks for answering
I have always liked the Dutch breed. I'm not sure if there would be much demand for them though......
