Hello and good evening and thank you for viewing my thread.

I had recently posted a thread in regards to helping some family members of mine purchase some farmland. I have had farmland in the past and they wanted me to help them in their venture of starting a small farm in NY. They finally are going to start making this a reality next season but right now they are going to start preparing and getting the farmland ready for next seasons planting, etc.

The thing is that right now with the purchase they had of the acreage they really have limited funds in some other things they might need. Some purchases for the farm will come in later in time once they start gathering more money to purchase them but right now they are in need of a working tractor. They are thinking of purchasing a walking tractor (like BCS) to help them which would be okay for tilling, mowing, etc but they were thinking in a compact tractor like a kubota or john deere, etc but the price tag on them is just too much for them, reaching $10,000-$17,000.00. They do not want to get into any debt in making loans, which is why they are just considering in buying a walking tractor for their small needs and then later expand once they can buy the compact tractor.

I am trying to see if there is a way that they could purchase a compact tractor and would appreciate any suggestions in regards to helping them find something good and usefull. I have heard of auctions, and have also heard of bartering and trading but do not know what could work. They currently own a Vacation Resort in Miami Beach FL they bought long ago which is paid in full and title is clear, they are even considering in selling it or bartering it for a tractor since they are in need of getting a tractor for working this property. Does anyone know if this could be possible in either bartering/trading their resort for a working tractor?

I greatly appreciate the help in trying to find a way to help them find a tractor. I appreciate your suggestions, and if anyone might be interested or knows of anyone interested in buying the resort or trading for the resort for a tractor please let me know to pass the word to them. I spoke to them today and they will consider selling it or trading if neccesary or else they will just have to settle for a walking BCS tractor for now. I dont know how hard it is to sell a resort but if anyone has suggestions on this, it would also be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time in reading this.

We looked at a Mahindra tractor, and ended up buying a used Yanmar that hubbo likes better. And it was under ten thousand.

oh that does not sound bad at all, did you buy it new or used? Did you buy it from a dealer, financing?

Thank you for the post.

i would strongly reccomend a kubota if there's a good one in that price range. Look at the kubota BX or maybe even a smaller B series. We have a 2011 B3300 wi/a hydrostatic transmission and love it!! we use it mainly for hauling wood and brush hogging the trails on our land tho, havn't used it for farming-type stuff like plowing so i don't really know much about them from a farming aspect. i would also consider kioti, yanmar or mahindra for lower-prices but the kubotas are alot nicer overall. also, stay away from the cheap chinese brands as they are difficult to service and often are poorly made. if you have any questions about the kubota tractors just ask.

I have 2 Ford 4400 industrials and absolutely love them, 56 horse and will do anything you want done. You can often find these with or without a front loader. without they run between 2-5k and with front loader around 6500-8k.
Like I said they will do just about anything you need done, we picked up a 1/2 ton truck and put in on a trailer, pulled out trees, ran a 5 ft PTO tiller, 7 ft disc, etc. Good tractors gas or deisel, abslute work horses.

Thank you everyone for the replies!!

You guys have been such a great help!

jerseygirl1 they are located in Orange county NY.

Well in your opinion guys, should they purchase a BCS walking tractor that might total to $6,500+ or just a smaller tractor?...but what is the minimum price one could find for a used small tractor like those kubota bx?

We appreciate your help everyone and again if anyone might know of someone who would like to buy or trade the resort for a tractor please let me know to pass the word to them..they are in need of a tractor soon!

Thanks again!
