please help me identify my flock

I have been silently lurking around this site for a while, I joined over the weekend and am ready to join the fun.

I am a hands off farmer, I don't name or play with my chickens. I just raise them and take the eggs. I would like to participate in an egg swap, but want to make sure I know what I have. I have an coop and run, but let my chickens free range during the day.

I have 8 laying hens, 7 hens in puberty and one really mean rooster. I am also raising 26 turkey chicks for Thanksgiving.

She is supposed to be a RIR, she's about 3mos old

Easter Egger or Ameraucauna?

RIR?

Farmer told me he was a sexlink. Not really sure what he is.

She is about 3 mos old, black with a rust brown speeckling on her chest. She had a huge growth spurt in the begnning we thoughtshe might be a roo.

3 mos old supposed to be White Leghorns

Buff Orphington?

Just let me know if I'm right or wrong about my labels.

I think your #1 is a red sex link, can also have other names as well, but RIR are much darker.
#2 easter egger
#3 looks like a NHR or a RIR
#4 not sure but pretty roo
#5 austrolorp (strictly a guess)
#6 sure look like leghorns to me

#1 - red sex-link pullet, RIR don't have any white in them.

#2 - a very beautiful easter egger hen, I love her coloring!

#3 - you're right! RIR hen

#4 - he's a mix of some sort, looks to have a modified peacomb. He's not a black sex-link because they'll always have barring. He's beautiful anyways. Might be some type of oriental breed crossed with jersey giant or australorp (or maybe all three!).

#5 - by your description, she's probably a black sex-link pullet.

#6 - those appear to be leghorn pullets.

#7 - yup, a buff orpington lady!

Yeah, I think #5 is a black sexlink. The one I had looked just like that.

Thanks for the speedy answers, I googled "austrolorp" and found some pictures that look like my guy.

What makes a chicken a sex link?

Out of out my flock what hen/rooster combo would make the best chick. I have a buff setting on three bkue eggs, and two buff eggs. What will my chicks be?

A sex link is any chicken that can be sexed at hatching by color. For example, with your Red Sex Link, cockerels are white, and the pullets have a brownish-red color to them.

There's no real way to tell which combination would yield the best chicks. Mix and match, but as long as they come from different breeds they'll have hybrid vigor (increased hardiness, egg laying, etc).

Try to take the best traits from both breeds. For example, if you want high-yield egg laying, breed your Leghorns. If you want those cool blue eggs, cross them with your Easter Egger. Tell us the outcome!

 

[Cuban Longtails]

sex-links can be sexed at hatch by color of the fluff. They're a combination of two separate breeds, such as RIR over barred plymouth rock to make the black sex-link. Those are easily sexed because male chicks have a yellow dot on their head and females are completely black.

Modified comb is mix tipe like yours rooster have.His comb is pea with rececive single.This make me sure he is not sex link(they have single comb).He can be any mix .Barring is black and white strips like Barred Rocks have
