Hello everyone! I adopted these chickens from a friend who had to move and I think some are Rhode Island Reds, but I'm not positive. I have 4 different kinds. 2 are a deep rust red color, 2 are light red color and are larger and fluffy with black tail feathers, 2 are light red color with white tail feathers and 1 is black and white. Attached are pictures.

Any ideas?

Thank you!
Janette

First one Rhode Island Red, second rear looks like an ISA Brown to me, not really sure on the front one; and third looks to be a Barred Rock.

The first is definitely a Rhode Island Red. In the second photo the one in the back looks exactly like my red star hen. The one in the front I am unsure of. The last picture looks like a Barred rock. Could be a cuckoo maran but I can't get a good look at her feet. If she lays really dark eggs then she is a maran if not then she is a barred rock. Good luck!

Production Red.
Red Sex-link in back, not sure on the bird in front.

Barred Plymouth Rock

Ooops. My first response was obviously messed up. Concerning the picture of your 2 red hens..those two are both Red Sex Links. <<<They are almost the spitting image of my 2. Mine are just 6-7 months in this pic.

Rhode Island Red.
Front bird: Hatchery-quality New Hampshire Red or production red. Back bird: Red Sex-Link.

Barred Plymouth Rock or Cuckoo Marans. What color are her legs? Marans will have white legs, but Rocks will have yellow legs.

Hi and Thanks Everyone,

I think I have it :) 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Red Star / Red Sex Link, 2 New Hampshire Red and 1 Cuckoo Maran (she has white legs!). They are all good egg layers and I'm getting about 6-7 eggs/day from 7 chickens. The Rhode Island Reds are very skiddish, the Ne Hampshire Reds are larger and very friendly, same with the Red Star (but they're a bit smaller) and the Cuckoo Maran is also very skiddish and won't let me pet or pick her up. All in due time.

I love having the chickens, they are so fun and they have personalities too. My one goat loves them too. The horses don't care, lol.

Thanks again!!
Nettie
