One more thing- any opening bigger than 1/2" is an invitation for weasels, snakes and rodents. Can you sheathe that gap inder the eaves with some 1/2" gauge hardware cloth?

Michelle, we are currently waiting to see if our coop is going to be tested by our local raccoons. (We live in Alameda).. When we were building the coop, my husband asked me why it had to be so secure. I told him that raccoons think chickens are delicious, and plus, we have city raccoons so they are smart smart smart. My husband gave me a quizzical look and asked me if they had a higher college graduation rate or something. LOL.

Good luck with your first few days! It was hard to think of our babies out there in the cold!
