Please help me tell the gender of this chicken

Meet Col. Sanders, my lone BR chicken.

I'm really rooting for a pullet, but there have been signs....

- She is quite aggressive with the other girls, though has never jumped them like some of my confirmed boys.

- She is always sparring with the roos AND the pullets

- I think I see pointy saddle feathers....

Anyhow, I need to know soon because I have to choose from my 4 (maybe 5

) roos who gets to stay with the 5 girls.

DEFINITE rooster, trust me. The light color is ALL-boy. Nice barring! Where did you get him? You said 4 roosters with 5 girls? All in the same coop? For that many girls, you shouldn't have more than one roo.

How old? To me (uneducated) it looks like a pullet.

eta: Like I said, I know nothing about barred rocks.

BR males are different from female in their coloring. Plus, there are pointy saddles coming in all over the place. BRs are my favorite. You can sex BRs at hatch. See these two, brother and sister at six weeks old? Pullet is much darker.

I agree with SpeckledHen, it is definately a ROO! Pointed saddle feathers and more white barring than black. You also can see the pointed neck feathers if you look at it closely.

Thanks guys. My gut was saying boy, but I didn't want to admit it. LOL

speckledhen: I got him from Berg's, a family run hatchery in MB, Canada. I also got 9 EE's and all are very nice, healthy birds. I will definitely be doing business with them again.

And yes, I have 5 roos/5 pullets right now and realize this will not work for much longer. They are only 3.5 months old, and already some of the boys are all hormones.

Poor girls have taken to running and hiding around the yard. I'd love to keep them all but the coop hubby and I built is only 8x6.

So yeah. I need to pick my rooster/s (might try and keep 2?) and asap. I plan to get replacement girls for the boys I find homes for. I just thought I would have more time....and less roos. Geez!

A very handsome rooster, and well worth keeping. The barring is quite good.
