Hello, I have a chick who is 3 days old now. It has curled toes and straddle legs. I got nutra-drench today and just gave it to the chick. I will do this everyday. I understand it just a matter of patient now and help the chick as much as I can, but i can't help but feel like there is a third factor affecting my chick. The chick today is hopping, which makes me proud, but the right leg is tilted to the side, as seen in the photo.

Here is what I have done and still doing:
Straightening the toes with a penie size round cardboard at the bottom of each foot and bandage on top of the foot to hold the foot in place. For the straddle I cut the bandaid in half hot dog style and tape on each ends of the joint that connect the foot to the leg. Look like a handcuff as best describe it.

But I leave these on for a couple of hours, like 2 or 3 hours. When I take it off, the right leg just wont stay straight and will turn away from the body of the chick.

Is that still straddle?
What to do next?
Suggestions?

I hope to fix the chick now as the chick is still growing and the bones and etc is still developing. I can see how hard the chick is fighting, and I want to help.

I trying as Chicken Hue's did on YouTube.

Please help.

When our Silkies arrived last week, one had terrible splayed legs. We did the same thing you did with the Band-Aid, except we left it on for 3 days, replacing the Band-Aid daily and checking the progress. Wrap it just below the knee joint, being sure to avoid feathers. Make sure the water and feed are easy for the chick to get to. A couple times a day, encourage the chick to stand for about a minute. I don't have much experience with curled toes, but I hope this helps.

Thank you so much. I will do as you did. I have a question though, when you mention about letting the chick stand for a couple of times, are the bandaid off too during those exercise, or are they still on?

Keep the band aid on when doing this, just gently lift her up so she’s standing. To fix curled toes you generally need to make something to help straighten the foot out. You could tape the toes affected onto the cardboard gently and see if this helps.
