Hello,

I did a big mistake!!
I have a 3 years old hen Maigo who seems to have an infection and now very sick. I called a vet who knows about chickens to get help and I was told to give antibiotics and lots of probiotics. So I melted probiotic powder with some water and gave it to her with a syringe but it seems the liquid went to the wrong pipe and now she's panting and making wheezing (gasping? sorry I don't know exactly how you say in English) sound every time she breaths and suffering a lot to let it out. Is there anything I can do? The vet who can see chickens is 3 hours away from here and he is not available on the phone today. I'm a bit panicking and feeling so sorry for her. And sorry for my bad English.

Sorry about your girl. She may recover from this if not to much fluid went in. Did she cough most of it out?
Thank you for your reply. She did cough 3 times so far and I could see some fluid came out but she is still making sound when she breaths. There was about 5ml water in the syringe and 2ml left so she got about 3ml.

@Niwatori hen How is she doing?
Thank you for asking. She is still the same... can't let out the rest of water making rasping sound loudly, closing her eyes and just standing. She doesn't have appetite but drinks water. It's so hard to see she's suffering like this for long time. I wanted to help her but made the situation even worse. I want to give her antibiotics for her infection but don't know if it's a good idea because of her condition and don't want to give her more stress. I really don't know what to do. Really don't know.

I’m so sorry. I don’t know if she’s online much these days, but I am going to tag a friend who is good at giving her chickens with respiratory problems oxine through a vaporizer. It might be worth a shot. @Hen Pen Jem

Edited: my autocorrect is on hyperdrive. I meant to say OXINE, which has been corrected.
