Last fall my family was finally able to purchase a home of our very own. It was very exciting but unfortunately we were unable to build a new coop til this year. My small flock of Cochins wintered at the in laws. I knew 3 of the hens were broody but really didn't think much of it. They are Cochins! I thought when the time came for the move the stress from moving to the new coop would snap them out of the broodiness.
Well my father in law called yesterday to inform me that 2 chicks had hatched! I really wasn't expecting chicks at this time. The coop will be done this weekend and I really don't want the babies to get trampled in the excitement of it all. Also when I drove over to check on them this am the 3 broodies were all kind of sitting together and the 2 chicks were just climbing all over all of them. None of the hens were really taking over? I have no idea who technically hatched the chicks but someone will leave the nest with them so they can eat and drink right?
I just feel terrible that I haven't been more involved and need a plan of action. I'm sorry if this is confusing but ANY insight would be appreciated.
