Daisy is standing like a penguin suddenly after being fine yesterday. Her butt is really messy and she does sometimes struggle to lay eggs. Is anyone able to tell if this is definitely peritonitis or egg binding?? She isn't acting as lethargic as chickens I've had previously with EYP and she laid only a couple days ago

That upright and tail down position can be common in chickens with salpingitis (internally laid egg masses from inflamed oviduct.) Can you insert a clean or gloved finger into her vent to check for a stuck egg or obstruction?

I can't feel anything at all :( she wasn't like this yesterday now she is suddenly

She has laid soft shells occasionally but also normal ones

Reproductive infections can occur when shell-less eggs burst inside. Eggs also can be deposited into the abdomen instead of traveling down the normal way. Egg yolk peritonitis can be a result. Is there any enlargement of her lower belly between her legs? Does she eat a layer feed and have access to crushed oyster shell? You could give her a human calcium with vitamin d tablet daily for a few days to see if that helps her pass an egg that might be too far up to feel. Some avian vets can give hormone implants to stop them from laying eggs. Here is some reading about EYP:

I had a hen like this last month. She had a very bad case of water belly. She was in bad shape, so I put her down. She was an older original hen of mine. Her abdomen was like a very large water balloon that weighed her down.

Yes I've dealt with EYP before and her abdomen is somewhat enlarged, but none of the other times I've dealt with EYP was it this sudden :( she did seem to have white eggy stuff around her butt but it could have just been poo. They always have layer pellets and Oyster shell to eat freely. Taking her to the vet in an hour hoping they can help :(

Her's isn't super large but it is squishy, I just found part of a broken egg on the floor of their run I'm wondering if it broke on the way out and there's still some in there :(

You can offer extra calcium just in case.

She could be in the early stages, or possibly have something else going on.
