Has anyone tried it in a CLEAR plastic egg carton? This is going to be my next test. LOL I have had good luck with the cartons, and was wondering as you that if one should pip at the bottom, how would I know? As of yet, this hasn't happened to me. So I'm going to use the clear plastic cartons just as I would the pulp ones. When I use the pupl carton, I not only cut holes in the bottom of the cups, but also cut down the sides as well, leaving just enough of the cup to keep the egg upright. I find it easier for the chicks to get oout of the carton and shell that way. Here's something else I have tried that noone has mentioned. I actually cut the pulp cartons into individual cups and set them in the bater, and made sure to use the shelf liner over the wire mesh, to act as a soft spot to land, and most of the time the chicks wiggling in the egg after zipping caused them to knock over on their sides, enabling them to get out of the egg easier. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Take it or leave it! LOL Good luck with your hatch!
