Hello everyone I need some help with my chicken she has a big red lump under her vent it feels like a water balloon I have treated her with antibiotics but it is still there, I have checked to see if there is an egg up there but it's completely empty also she has runny poo and keeps sitting in the nesting box but no egg. Please can somebody tell me what to do I take really good care of my chickens and am lost with her! please note that i have just washed her in this picture because she slept under the perch last night and got pooed on!

Thanks Casey :(

Hi, I would think your chicken is either laying internally or the swelling is fluid, either way the prognosis I fear is not good, I know chickens who have fluid can live happily for a good while but she will probably start finding life difficult such as perching, as you take good care of your chooks, I would suggest just keeping an eye on her and having her put to sleep when things get hard for her, I have read on here that people have drained the fluid from their chickens, put in a search for it and have a look, the fluid will probably come back quite quickly though

When a chicken is carrying what looks like a water balloon in her bottom there is something seriously wrong. However, it's impossible to know what until after the hen dies and a necropsy is done. I know this because I do home necropsies on my hens and I've had chickens exhibiting the same outward symptoms and have found totally different aliments going on inside. She could have cancer, ascites, internal laying, peritonitis, or an impacted, infected reproductive tract. To give her some comfort and relief, do my spa treatment. http://hencam.com/faq/the-spa-treatment/
This won't cure her, but it can make her feel somewhat better. Some internal layers are able to reabsorb the material. Separate her for a day and monitor food intake and what comes out. If she's eating, drinking and pooping, then there's hope. If she stops eating then please read this:

Even if you take really good care of your chickens, this will happen, so don't feel guilty!
